| The image below shows one unit within the east-west transect in area 1 of the site map, off the north side of the old School house. The upper layer of the shale bedrock has fragmented, creating a heavy intrusion of rocks in the soil of this unit, at a level above the solid outcrop of bedrock. Many units throughout the site contain such fragmented shale in the soil.
