St. Peter's Church and School House, 1886 The image below shows a photograph taken in May, 1886, of the St. John's Episcopal Church, which is just uphill to the north of St. Peter's. This photo shows the bell tower for St. Peter's Church & School stood just inside the north retaining walls, with its footings at the level of the School House yard. Source: This image is available from the Library of Congress' American Memory project. The original was owned by Mrs. Dudrow of Bolivar, West Virginia. A 1960 duplicate was included in the Historic American Building Survey report concerning St. John's Church.
